Pilot Light Without Safety Shut-Off
Modern furnaces have many safety controls built-in
This older furnace does not have some important safety controls. The gas tube to the pilot light originates before the control mechanisms. There is nothing to stop the flow of gas to the pilot light if the pilot flame were to go out. At a minimum this furnace needs some upgrading. Better still would be to replace it with a modern, safer, more efficient furnace.
