Cut Floor Joist
This floor joist is cut almost completely through
The carpenter made a mistake, and started to cut this joist too short. Part way through the cut he realized the metal duct behind the joist is in the way. So, he moved several inches to the left, but he never repaired the part that was cut. He did, however, paint the area black so the cut was harder to find. Sneaky, eh? I've highlighted the cut in red so you can see it.
