Makeshift Sewage Ejector Pump
Professional plumbers can install ejector pumps to lift waste out of a basement — this isn't one of them!
A hole was knocked in the basement floor with a sledge hammer to dig a pit. A rubber trash can was dropped in, but not backfilled (the floor slab is hollow under the person in the photo). Inside the trash can is a submersible pump. The whole thing is covered with a plywood box that sticks up above the floor and creates a tripping hazard. All of this was done to get rid of water from a washing machine. The sad thing is, the washing machine has its own pump that is perfectly capable of lifting the water up and out. This fiasco is completely unnecessary!
