Water Heater Corrosion
It's common to find some corrosion where pipes connect to water heaters
But when it gets this bad there is a serious risk of springing a leak and it needs to be repaired. Sometimes the repair is as simple as replacing some pipes. Other times —like in this photo— the water heater itself must be replaced.
