Broken Rafters
These rafters probably broke during the heavy snows of March 2003
Building standards have changed over the years. Many old houses are built with much lighter framing than we would use today, and many old roofs should be strengthened. There are at least 5 cracked rafters supporting this roof; the owners probably had no idea how close they came to disaster. In spite of this damage, the roof is still repairable. The owners of the house shown below were not so fortunate — their house was completely demolished.
